Family Charitable Legacy Plan
Passing on Faith, Values, and Generosity to Future Generations
"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it"
– Proverbs 22:6
What is a Family Charitable Legacy Plan?
A Family Charitable Legacy Plan is your set of instructions for your charitable contributions that the Foundation follows when we receive your donation via your estate plan.
If you need help to refine your Charitable Legacy Plan, the Catholic Legacy Foundation of Acadiana can assist you with
personalized giving strategies. We also recommend consulting your financial advisor or attorney to review your Charitable Legacy Plan.
Benefits of a Family Charitable Legacy Plan
- Single Beneficiary — Instead of listing multiple charities in your estate plan, name the Catholic Legacy Foundation of Acadiana (with a reference to your Family Charitable Legacy Plan) as the beneficiary, simplifying your giving.
- Easy to Update — Unlike estate documents, your Family Charitable Legacy Plan can be adjusted without the need for an attorney. Simply contact the Foundation to modify your plan.
- Contingencies — If an organization you designated ceases to exist or your gift needs adjustment, the Foundation will help ensure your charitable intentions remain intact.
- Guardian of Your Wishes — The Foundation safeguards your charitable goals after your lifetime, ensuring your generosity continues to support the causes you care about.
- Simple or Complex Giving — Whether you leave cash to a single beneficiary or donate complex assets such as real estate or cryptocurrency, the Foundation can help create a plan tailored to your goals.
How It Works
1. Define Your Legacy
Identify the Catholic organizations, ministries, and charitable causes that are most meaningful to your family.
2. Choose Your Gift
Select the best charitable giving vehicles for your legacy, such as:
- Bequests from a Will or Trust — Leave a gift to the Church as part of your estate
- Life Insurance Beneficiary Designations — Make tax-efficient gifts
- Retirement Plan Beneficiary Designations — Make tax-efficient gifts
- Charitable Remainder Trusts — Provide financial support to both your family and Catholic ministries
- “Pay on Death” — Leave a gift from a financial account upon death
3. Name CLFA as Beneficiary
Name the Catholic Legacy Foundation of Acadiana as the beneficiary of your gifts.

4. Gift Distribution
The Foundation distributes the gift(s) according to your wishes. This may include creating new funds at the Foundation, adding to our existing funds, and/or making donations directly to other charitable organizations:
- Donor Advised Fund (new or existing)
- Endowed or Non-Endowed Family Fund (new or existing)
- Endowed or Non-Endowed Institutional Fund (new or existing)
- Outright Donation to Qualifying Charity(ies) or Non-Profit(s)
