Beneficiary Designation
Passionate about supporting the work of the Church even after your lifetime? It's not only possible, it's easy to do with a beneficiary designation. Just name the Catholic Legacy Foundation or one of its affiliated funds as a beneficiary to receive assets such as retirement plans and life insurance policies after you're gone. You simply fill out a form that is entirely separate from your will—which makes this approach an easy way to give.
A beneficiary designation allows you to name the Catholic Legacy Foundation of Acadiana or a fund it manages as the beneficiary of specific assets that you have. Upon your passing, these assets are transferred directly to the Foundation, creating an enduring gift that supports Catholic causes. You can designate funds from:
- Retirement accounts (e.g., IRAs, 401(k)s)
- Life insurance policies
- Donor advised funds
- Commercial annuities
Benefits of Beneficiary Designations
Life Insurance | Naming the Foundation or an affiliated fund as both owner and beneficiary, you receive immediate tax benefits. For instance, you may be entitled to an immediate tax deduction for the accumulated cash value of a life insurance policy (if any) and a future deduction for any subsequent premiums that are paid.
Retirement Accounts | When a distribution is made from your retirement plan account, your beneficiaries will owe federal income tax. Consider leaving your loved ones less heavily taxed assets and leaving your retirement plan assets to the Foundation. As a nonprofit organization, we are tax-exempt and will receive the full amount of what you designate to us from your plan to help the causes that matter to you most.
You can create a meaningful legacy without affecting your financial stability during your lifetime.
- Simplicity — Updating beneficiary information is straightforward and does not require changes to your will or trust.
- Flexibility — Retain control of your assets during your lifetime and make updates as needed.
- Tax Efficiency — Designating a tax-exempt organization like the Foundation may reduce the tax burden on your estate.
- Impactful Giving — Ensure your legacy supports Catholic ministries for future generations.
